Season six of Beverly Hills, 90210, an American teen drama television series, began airing on September 13, 1995 on FOX television network. The season concluded on May 22, 1996 after 32 episodes.[1]

This season focuses on the gang’s junior year of college. The sixth season aired Wednesday nights at 8/9c in the United States averaging 9.8 million viewers[2] a week, 4.9 million viewers fewer than the fifth season. The season was released on DVD as a seven disc boxed set under the title of Beverly Hills, 90210: The Sixth Season on November 25, 2008 by Paramount.[3]

Overview

The gang is starting their junior year at California University, and Kelly has returned with new boyfriend Colin Robins after deciding to choose neither Brandon nor Dylan in the season 5 finale. Valerie remains somewhat estranged from the rest of the gang, and Donna and Ray are still together despite their previous troubles. As he was at the end of last season[4], Dylan is fixated on finding his father’s murderer, and David is dealing with his mother’s mental health issues.

Brandon returns to the Walsh house in Beverly Hills from his summer job in Boston to find Valerie’s friend from Buffalo, Ginger LaMonica, asleep in his bed. Meanwhile, Kelly and her new artist boyfriend, Colin Robins, return from New York City. Donna hosts a birthday party for her mother on her parents’ yacht, and Valerie and Ginger show up despite the gang’s disapproval. At the party, one of Mrs. Martin’s friend’s cocktail rings goes missing. Dylan obsesses over avenging his father's death and visits his father’s former cellmate. Then he visits his family's storage locker with Kelly, and the two almost kiss, but she stops him. The gang then throws a rave at the Walsh house before the realtor can tell them the house has fallen out of escrow. Donna finds the missing cocktail ring in Ray’s pocket, and he angrily storms out after the gang accuses him of stealing it.

The gang puts the Walsh house back together after the rave, and Steve moves in with Brandon and Valerie. David helps plan an elaborate 21st birthday celebration for Kelly at the Greek Concert Hall, and Ray returns from a trip he took after the gang accused him of stealing. In the meantime, Steve’s gold Rolex goes missing, and so does the grocery money from the Walsh house. Ray is the prime suspect, but Valerie dumps out Ginger’s purse at Kelly’s party to reveal that Ginger is the real thief. As Valerie drives Ginger to the airport, we learn it has all been a scam to get Valerie back in the gang’s good graces. Meanwhile, Dylan has a brush with the mobster, Anthony Marchette, who he thinks was the mastermind of his father's death, and Brandon voices his concern over Dylan’s vendetta. The gang forgives Ray, and Donna asks him to sleep with her, but he refuses. Colin makes up for missing Kelly’s birthday party and being short with her by revealing a birthday painting he made for her.

Kelly is bothered by the fact that Colin and Valerie had a fling when they traveled across Europe together years ago. Steve learns he must take remedial math classes, and Clare volunteers to tutor him. Brandon joins the newspaper and butts heads with Susan Keats, the obstinate, hard-working editor, who is not impressed by his resume. Susan does agree to go to the After Dark with Brandon under the guise of doing journalistic research. Dylan makes friends with Antonia "Toni" Marchette, the daughter of his father's supposed murderer, and she invites him to lunch. Ray plays a show at the After Dark and gets the chance to audition for a record exec. Valerie hires Colin to paint a mural, and the two share a kiss.

Kelly, Donna, and Clare compete in the Tournament of Roses Royal Court tryouts, and Donna’s mother doesn’t believe she has what it takes to win. Brandon and Susan cover the event, and Brandon tries to prove to Susan that the event is not inherently demeaning to women. They later kiss in the press room. Toni sneaks away from her bodyguard so she and Dylan can spend some time alone, and Dylan begins to develop feelings for her. The bodyguard watches and reports back to Marchette. Ray performs for the record exec’s daughter’s birthday, and Kelly becomes jealous when Colin shows up at the Rose Ball with Valerie. Clare asks Steve to escort her to the party as she tutors him in math, but he makes a date with a woman he met on the Internet, who turns out to be Clare. David struggles with his feelings about his institutionalized mother after she attempts suicide.

David pulls away from the group after his mother attempts to kill herself, and this causes Valerie emotional stress because her father committed suicide. Brandon and Susan have a tense date due to power issues at the newspaper. Nat tries to catch a mouse at the Peach Pit that's ruining business, but it’s Donna who finally catches it. Toni has the gang over for dinner at her father's, and her bodyguard Bruno threatens Dylan that he and Marchette know who he is.

Valerie crashes the all-girls road trip Kelly, Donna, and Clare have planned, and many uncomfortable secrets surface. Valerie admits she has feelings for David and that she seduced Ray at one time only for the rush it gave her. Donna is furious, and then Clare admits she knew but did not say anything which makes Donna even angrier. The car breaks down, and they end up having to stay in a convent for the night together. Since Valerie knows Ray is physically abusing Donna, she convinces her to break up with him. Steve rents the Walsh house to a movie crew to shoot a porn film. Toni's father confronts Dylan about their relationship, and Brandon and Susan grow closer.

Dylan and Toni communicate through Bruno after her father forbids Dylan from seeing her. Kelly refuses to go to Colin's art exhibit when she finds out that there is something going on between him and his agent Claudia Van Eyck. Clare and Steve have a romantic night together at a fancy hotel where nothing goes as planned. Donna continues to pursue her dream of becoming Rose Queen. Valerie doesn’t know how to handle it when a professor sexually harasses her because he knows about her bad reputation. When he gives her a 'D' on her term paper, David tries to persuade her to press charges. Meanwhile Susan tries to get Brandon to help her find dirt on the professor for a story.

In an effort to get back in Donna’s good graces, Ray decorates the beach apartment with pumpkins, but he reacts violently to her new romantic interest, a college football player named Joe Bradley. Colin unveils his Kelly-inspired mural at the After Dark. Toni questions her father about Dylan's dad, and he admits knowing Jack which causes her to run to Dylan for comfort. There is a mysterious gypsy named Madame Raven at a Halloween party at the Peach Pit After Dark. David buys a love potion from her to speed up his relationship with Valerie, but Steve and Clare accidentally get it instead and end have a very wild night. Susan goes to the party with Brandon where she becomes even more confused about their relationship.

Susan and Brandon are trapped in an elevator with a pregnant woman after a huge earthquake hits L.A. and she goes into labor, and Susan has difficulty dealing with the situation. Dylan announces that he and Toni are engaged. Donna continues to pursue the title of Rose Queen, and she finds a picture of her mother taken during a 1969 Rose competition. Ray's therapist warns Donna that he has a history of being abused as a child by his father and she may be in danger.

Marchette attempts to kill Dylan to prevent he and Toni’s wedding from happening, but his plan is foiled by the gang's plans. Kelly and Donna throw a bachelorette party for Toni at the beach apartment, and Brandon organizes a boring bachelor party involving a card game. The next day, Dylan and Toni get married. Marchette requests a meeting with Dylan after failing to dissuade Toni from calling off the wedding. He plans to kill of Dylan, but Bruno tries to warn Dylan. The plan backfires and Toni takes the bullets by mistake in a drive-by shooting. Meanwhile, Ray threatens Donna after she breaks up with him.

Donna's mother confesses a past indiscretion to her about her involvement in the Rose Bowl tryouts of 1969. Bounty hunter Jay J. Jones returns and gets Valerie to help with a divorce case by posing as a prostitute in a sting operation.

Steve is a huge success at Clare's father's faculty party, and Valerie regretfully accepts cooking help from David's mentally unstable mother. Donna invites NFL quarterback Steve Young over to Casa Walsh for Thanksgiving, and she learns that she and Joe both disapprove of premarital sex.

Joe's trial begins and Donna is caught in a lie on the witness stand. Brandon gets a national byline for his coverage of the trial. Meanwhile, the Valerie manipulates Colin and Susan about Brandon and Kelly's romantic liaison at Thanksgiving to break. Kelly sees a kinder side of Colin when they spend time with her sister Erin.

Donna makes Joe drive her to his house and learns that the boy and his two siblings are neglected. Susan finds out about Brandon’s gambling addiction resurfaces during a casino-night fund raiser at the After Dark. Valerie and Kelly compete with each other to pose for Colin.

Steve's "Christmas Curse" continues when he loses his job at the agency because of someone else and angers his father who doesn’t believe Steve is innocent. Joe plans to give Donna a talking parrot on her 21st birthday.

The day after New Years Day, Clare arrives at Casa Walsh from her Christmas stay with her father in San Diego and listens to the gangs New Years Eve mishap stories which include: Steve babysitting for his two rowdy teenage step-brothers, Ryan and Austin, who sneaked into the After Dark for some rowdy partying. David and Joe skip out on the After Dark party to help Donna find her escaped parrot.

Meanwhile, Nat refuses to participate in Steve's film festival honoring Roger Corman after the gang sees him in one of Corman's movies from 1972 titled 'Unholy Rollers'. Nat’s former fiancée Joan Diamond comes to the festival. Brandon becomes even more jealous of Susan's ex-boyfriend and doesn’t give her his message when he calls.

Kelly is now using cocaine with Colin regularly, and Valerie tells the gang about it. Steve and Clare have to attend traffic school where they meet a TV talk show producer who books them on an episode about bickering couples. Joe's heart condition becomes an issue between Brandon and Susan after they question Donna's father about it, and Donna questions the opinion Joe received from another doctor.

Valerie pretends to be Colin's agent to an art collector, hoping she will get a share of the money and that he will quit drugs. Colin says he must continue using drugs because he being under the influence is part of his creative process, and Valerie becomes discouraged. Clare refuses to believe Steve's true story when his Palm Springs "old flame" Elle, (from the P.S. I Love You episode) a transvestite, shows up and starts flirting with her father. Kelly tries to tell David and others that she has given up cocaine, but no one believes her. Jonathan returns to Beverly Hills which upsets Brandon during a writer awards dinner in which Susan receives an award for a poignant article about a woman's abortion. Later, Susan reveals to Brandon that she was the woman the article was about in which getting an abortion was the reason that broke up the couple in the story.

Valerie's old friend, Ginger LaMonica, returns to Beverly Hills and blackmails Valerie by threatening to reveal the jewelry theft scam for money. Valerie refuses to pay, until Ginger offers another option: one night with David.

Kelly goes to a seedy part of L.A. to buy cocaine, gets beaten up, and hits rock bottom. Also, Joe gets bad news when his coach tells him that he is off the football team after news of his heart disorder begins circulating.

Donna investigates a new cardiac procedure that could help Joe.

Donna and David's music video of her and Powerman 5000 is a hit with everyone but Joe.

Brandon and Susan win $5,000 in the lottery but lose the winning ticket. Valerie is left hanging when Colin bails out on going to jail. He then visits Kelly for a while before fleeing town.

While Steve is still incapacitated by his broken jaw, Carl takes Clare out on a date and the two reminisce over her mother.

Valerie hires an FBI agent to find Colin, who is trying to get on a ship to take him to South America. Carl hosts Steve's weekend-long 21st birthday bash on the ship Queen Mary in Long Beach, where the music group "The Goo Goo Dolls" entertains. Carl then asks Steve if he has a chance with Clare. David and Donna grow more intimate while their producer makes a move on Donna and other women as well. Andrea Zuckerman arrives in town for Steve's party, and Nat brings along Joan, who doesn’t feel well.

Steve tells Clare about Carl's feelings for her and asks her not to pick Carl. Meanwhile, David and Donna get back together, but still worry about Erik. Joan tells Nat that she may be pregnant. While Colin is trying to get the necessary papers and identity to leave the country on a freighter, Steve and Brandon end up in jail from a barroom brawl, and Kelly and Valerie have to bail them out. Nat proposes to Joan, who accepts. Colin is caught, Steve and Clare get back together, and Brandon coldly breaks up with Susan after she admits her career means more to her than anything.
